Predicting a Best Seller or "Books with a certain je ne sais quoi"

We discuss the characteristics that could qualify a book for a NY Times Bestseller. These are some of our basic criteria. (We also go off on a tangent about popular baby names.)
1. Be controversial or scandalous 
2. Excellent writing 
3. Be a well-known author
4. Write a book, then die. 
5. Get your book made into a movie
6. Try to have a happy ending or wrap it up 
7. Come up with a concept never heard of before
8. Get Oprah (or a big celebrity) to recommend it
